This industrial city was based in 1722, after the construction of the copper factory on the Tgil River. The owner of this factory, Akinfiy Demidov, an ironmaster from Tula, simultaneously has constructed iron plant nearby, which began manufacture in 1725. It was a beginning of Demidov's dynasty and became the most powerful industrial centre in the Russian empire.
